Dr Barbara Daveson – plenary presentation

A look into the future: Priorities and opportunities for Australia’s PCOC

Dr Barbara Daveson first started work as a therapist in palliative care in 1998. Since then, she has held research and health service management posts in Australia and the UK. Her postdoctoral work, led to her appointment as the Cicely Saunders International Lecturer in Health Services Research in Palliative Care at King’s College London. Dr Daveson has held executive positions within the Australian federal government, helping develop national policy for the benefit of consumers and their unpaid carers.

In 2019, Dr Daveson became the National Manager of the Palliative Care Outcomes Collaboration (Australia) and Senior Research Fellow at the Australian Health Services Research Institute at University of Wollongong, Australia. She has published widely including on research conducted in Australia, Europe and the USA, and presented internationally. Her research includes: mixed methods, cohort studies, cross-national cross-sectional surveys, implementation science, outcome and assessment measurement, with often a focus on older adults and always a commitment to improving quality and equity.
