Ms Sophia Burton – plenary presenter
Sophia Burton is an expert in understanding the lived experience of palliative care, and the value of patient and carer outcomes.
In December 2015, her husband (Bahman) was diagnosed with terminal mesothelioma. Palliative care was recommended at the time the diagnosis was made. Twelve weeks later Bahman died, surrounded by Sophia, their teenage daughters (Mathilda and Rose), and loving family members.
Since Bahman’s death, Sophia has continued to live in their family home with her daughters in Manly on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Sophia continues her career in marketing and publishing, she volunteers to support those with mental health challenges, and remains committed to providing for her daughters. Keeping the relationship with Bahman alive remains important while pursuing all that life has to offer.
